workshops for small groups (adults and teens)
These workshops are designed to facilitate the participants' engagement with our shared creative heritage as well as their own inner resources. At the beginning of each workshop, we will set our intentions for the day. Then, within the safe space that we will create for our art-making, participants will have the opportunity to engage with a variety of materials as they cultivate their personal art practices. There will be opportunities for contemplation, tea, snacks, discussion, and sharing during the day. If possible, each workshop will include time to explore nature, in some way.
Presences: Images and objects from our journeys of awakening (a two- or four-hour journey)
In this workshop, we will cultivate an environment hospitable to these Presences as we work with a variety of materials to create images and objects from our journeys. Some materials were provided, including a small (4”x4”) wood panel that can be transformed in a number of ways, and an eclectic assortment of art materials, hardware, and ephemera; participants are encouraged to bring small personal items such as photos, fabrics, and two- or three-dimensional mementos. The workshop will end with an opportunity for discussion and sharing.
Presences workshop is open to groups of adults and serious teens with an interest in art, objects, and the inner journey. No previous experience is needed, only a hospitality to the process. Jeanne will be available for questions and feedback at any time during the day. After the workshop is completed, she will also be available by email and through a blog set up for this purpose.

the soul of books: pages for personal devotion (a four-hour journey, which can be adapted for two hours)
Books are spaces in which we may contemplate
the mysteries and riddles of the cosmos… cultivate the process of the heart’s
awakening… engage our dreams and visions.
In this workshop, we will look
together at historical and contemporary forms of books – such as prayer books,
artist’s books, and personal journals. During the day, participants will have
the opportunity to create a personal book from available materials, and also to adapt and embellish an existing
journal or blank book with images, objects and text. When completed, both books
may serve as private space for contemplation and devotion. Throughout the day, participants will have
abundant time to reflect, create, and begin the process of opening to their books’ pages.
this workshop has previously been offered at the sanctuary for the arts in sunbury, ohio.

Material water refreshes the
body, sensual water nourishes the spirit, and archetypal Water deepens the
soul. The primordial dream of Water flows through the human psyche, across time
and space.
In this workshop, we will engage with water in the natural world, while reflecting on the meaning of flowing in our inner lives. After a brief gathering to discuss logistics and set our intentions for the day, we will create temporary, site-specific works that gently engage a creek, stream, brook, or run, as well as permanent art that responds to the experience of the day.
A variety of materials (including small vessels, papers, and earth-friendly pigments) will be at hand for sharing, and participants are encouraged to bring a camera (or smartphone); a journal, such as a Moleskine watercolor notebook, and any personal materials that are central to their creative practice. Wetable shoes and (depending on the season and the weather) a hat, and sunblock are recommended.
The Flowing workshop is open to adults and serious teens with an interest in nature, art, and the inner journey. No previous experience is needed, only a hospitality to the process. Jeanne will be available for questions and feedback at any time during the day. After the workshop is completed, she will also be available by email and through a blog set up for this purpose.
